Russelle is an Innovator Fellow at The March Group (TMG), where he has had the opportunity to gain valuable experience at the intersection of food, health, and biotechnology. With a background in analytical chemistry, bioinformatics, and mass spectrometry, Russelle is deeply interested in how data-driven approaches can inform decisions in emerging sectors focused on human health and wellness.
During his fellowship, Russelle contributed to market analysis efforts, helping to uncover trends and insights in a diverse dataset of over 180 food and health startups. Using informatics methods he learned from multi-omic analyses, he worked to identify opportunities for strategic growth and investment within the biotech space. Additionally, he was involved in providing technical support to early-stage companies, particularly in areas related to glycobiology and mass spectrometry, which allowed him to support innovation while also learning from experienced entrepreneurs.
In his academic research, Russelle is focused on studying protein glycosylation and its implications for diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. This work underscores his passion for advancing our understanding of human health through science and technology. Russelle is especially excited about the potential to apply his research to real-world challenges, such as developing solutions that address the growing intersection of food, nutrition, and health. For his efforts and contributions to the glycobiology community, Russelle was awarded the 2025 SDGS Rising Star Award in Glycobiology.
Russelle is currently finishing his Ph.D. in Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of California Davis. He holds MS in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and an MS in Biochemistry from the University of the Philippines.
